NEWS UPDATE!..........
.The dates for next years "Fall Fun Fest" are set. Thursday, September 25 to 27, 2008, at the Virgin River Hotel & Casino in Mesquite, Nevada. Yes folks, the very same place we had it last year. Only difference is the weekend rates are slightly higher by $5 and will cost $44.99 for Friday & Saturday. The other days are only $29.99. Our hospitality room and the car show location will remain the same as will the banquet on Saturday, September 27. I haven't gotten the banquet menu or cost yet, but I'm expecting a cost increase. There is also going to be a slight increase in cost to $15.00 to have a vehicle judged because the price of trophy's is going up. New brochures/flyers will be forthcoming in the very near future so everybody will have a lot of time to plan. Be sure to get your reservations in early to avoid being shut out of the main building (building #1) which is where the Studebaker people are to be put. Be sure to mention that to the operator.
.Attended the Tumbleweeds Chapter SDC Christmas Party on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Jim Coe & Toni Groom's house. It was a wonderful time even though about the fewest people in attendance I have ever seen. That didn't dampen our spirits or the taste of the food. We had a great time and plenty of good chow thanks to Toni Groom's cooking along with the other food donations. I sloshed all the way home. How Rude!!! In the "Chinese Auction" I got a lovely sweater to help keep out the cold. I wore it today and it is wonderful. The last two years I ended up with my own gift back. Once again, How Rude!!!
I hope next year will have an increased turn-out or it may be the end of the annual Tumbleweeds Chapter Christmas Party. We wouldn't want that to happen, would we?
Thanks, gw...........

NEWS UPDATE!..........
.The first annual "Fall Fun Fest" Studebaker Car Show & Meet in Mesquite is done. The big surprise is it was very successful considering the very slow start in registrations. Howeve, things picked up right near the end and with several walk/drive-ins that pushed us over the top, I believe we may have made a few bucks on the deal. I don't have all the final numbers in as yet, but it's looking very favorable.
.Some names that demand a lot of thanks are: Inez Brunson - Hospitality and a lot of ear bending helping me figure things out. * Fred & Erika Ball - Registration and just about everything else. Couldn't have done it without them. * Julie Miller - Hospitality. * Erv & Marge Judd - Poker Run - They set it up and made it a fun evening. * Paul & Mary Harvey / Ralph & Marji Perry - Setting up the raffle items, selling tickets whether you wanted them or not, and doing every fill-in job around. * Jim Coe - helping with things other people didn't want to do. * Bill Oliver - giving a nice presentation about Studebaker Parts & Service at the banquet. I'm sure there are those I missed and I hope they will forgive me. My brain is still whirring from all the activity. It was fantastic fun and I'm looking forward to having it again next fall. Be sure to get your reservations in early.
Thanks, gw...........

NEWS UPDATE!..........
.Inez Brunson and I attended the 43rd International Studebaker Meet in South Bend, Indiana and just had a wonderful time. Visited good friends and Zion Chapter members, Paul & Mary Harvey, while enroute. We also spent quite a bit of time buddying about with them at the meet as well. Always great to spend time with them. Pauls 1973 White Avanti is Lookin' & Runnin' Good!
.I won't give you lots of details as you will all read about the show in the Turning Wheels. They'll have better and more complete articles as well as some wonderful pictures. I can tell you my 1990 Avanti 4-Door Touring Sedan took another first place (2 consecutive years) and our club newsletter also won the Golden Hawk Award for the most improved SDC Chapter Newsletter. Not bad for a one year old club, eh? All in all we did well. It wasn't cheap, but lots of fun. If you missed it you missed one of the best....!
Thanks, gw...........

UPDATE: 2-22-07
NEWS UPDATE!...........
.Went to a meeting of the Tumbleweeds Chapter in Las Vegas last evening, 2-21-07. A very nice attendance as at least 7 extra chairs had to be brought in to accomodate everyone. The little room they had us in only had seating for about 12. It was crowded and boistrous at times, but was a lot of fun. Paul & Mary Harvey flew in from Tennessee and I drove in from St George. Jim Marsh was also in attendance, a real bonus.
Business at hand that included interest for the Zion National Chapter was the fact that they decided to NOT have a car show this year but would consolodate their efforts to help us with a major show in Mesquite in early October. I will be down there tomorrow to see what I can get started on room rates and available dates along with other amenities we might need. May as well get started right away as time slips away quickly.
Other business of interest to us was them paying for current members of their chapter to be members in our chapter for the year 2007. That will help our funds a little and give us a few extra bucks to work with. I know most of the car show money (deposits and such) will probably come out of my bank account so I'm starting to plan now. I haven't gotten dues from all our members yet for 2007, but I'm hopeful it will trickle in soon so I'll know what we have to work with.
Over the past 2 months the following people have paid the following: Gary Walters $100 - Sam & Rhonda Bailey $25 - Fred & Erika Ball $12 - George Deckert $25 - Paul & Mary Harvey $12 - Erv & Marge Judd $20 - Dennis & Adelmarie Murphy $50 - Ralph & Marji Perry $15.
I want to thank these people for their kind donations to our cause and helping to keep the club going. If you don't see your name in the above list, PLEASE get out your pen and check book and get your dues off to me ASAP. Many Thanks!!!
I will soon conjur up a meeting time/location and let everyone know in plenty of time. Anybody got any thoughts or a favorite place? Lemme know!!!!
Many Thanks to All,
Gary Walters - President/Administrator

OUR SECOND YEAR!...........
.We managed to survive our first year as an SDC Chapter and we are now officially in our second year. Who woulda thunk it? I'm hoping year number two will show an increase in our activity as a club. I'm hoping to plan, and execute, a car show here in St. George sometime in the near future. I'm also hoping to plan a couple of outings so we can share some common interests as well as show off our cars. Are you with me?
.Let's hope we continue to show some growth in 2007......
